A link would not import

Instagram and TikTok refuse most requests for their pages, so the recipe often has to come from the caption rather than the page. Copy the caption, open FoodMate → Recipes → Add from a link, and paste it into the text box. Sharing the post to FoodMate from the share sheet brings the caption along automatically where the app you shared from provides it.

The app says the on-device model is unavailable

Reading a caption needs Apple Intelligence, which is available on newer devices and has to be switched on in iOS Settings. Two things still work without it: cooking sites that publish their recipe as structured data import exactly as before, and you can add your own OpenAI key in FoodMate → Settings → Model to use ChatGPT instead.

An amount came out wrong

Recipes read from a caption are shown for checking before they are saved, and every line can be edited then or later from the recipe's Edit screen. If a particular site is consistently misread, send the link — that is the useful kind of bug report.

A recipe says an ingredient is missing when I have it

The kitchen is matched to recipes by name, so "куриное филе" finds "филе куриное охлаждённое" but not something recorded under a very different word. Renaming the item in the Kitchen tab to what recipes call it fixes it. For things like salt and oil, swipe an item right and mark it "Always in" — those are never counted as missing again.

Sending the shopping list to Reminders

Shopping → the ⋯ menu → Send to Reminders. The first time, iOS asks for access to Reminders; FoodMate writes into a list called "FoodMate". After the shop, the same menu has "Check what was ticked off", which moves everything you completed there into your kitchen.

Getting my recipes out

Settings → Export as Markdown. You get a zip with one Markdown file per recipe, YAML front matter, an index and — if you want them — your photos. Obsidian opens it as it is, and so does any text editor.

Deleting everything

Deleting the app removes the collection it stored on your device. Export first if you want to keep it.
